What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is a holistic therapeutic mind body approach to wellness and balance for the whole being. It weaves in elements of clinical training, physical therapy, mental health support, yoga philosophy, meditation, mindfulness, movement and a variety of evidence-based mind body practices to address your unique situation and concerns.

 

My approach

It’s essential to understand you to develop a plan of care designed around your needs.

With presence, depth and a balance between evidenced-based understanding and intuitive assessment, we use relaxation practices, breathing techniques, movement, and goal setting to develop your unique plan of care.

Monica , MS, C-IAYT, RYT 500, began as a yoga practitioner in the mid 1990’s, became a yoga teacher in 2003, and dove into yoga therapy 10 years later culminating in the completion of a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy in 2018 from Maryland University of Integrative Health.

She has specialized training with yoga for during & after cancer care, has performed yoga therapy with both in-patient and out-patient dementia patients & bedside with patients at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. She holds a safe container and listens deeply with a Kohut style of listening.

She has worked with grief and loss, chronic pain, trauma, musculoskeletal issues, nervous system disorders, substance misuse, diabetes, scoliosis, and mental & emotional imbalance.

Her ongoing vision is to hold a strong container, listen deeply, and walk alongside you to co-create a path towards healing on all levels of your being.
